Personality Clashes At Work

2 min read

It would be wonderful if we could all love the people we work with. Some people are lucky in that they immediately gel with their co-workers and enjoy the time they spend in the workplace. Most of us, however, would not choose to spend time with some of our co-workers if we had that choice!

Just like any other social environment, not all people who come together will gel. It can take some effort, communication and understanding to reach a comfortable working environment. As with school, we didn’t always like all of our classmates and learning how to deal with these situations at a young age stands us in good stead for entering the world of work and coming across similar scenarios.

Managers should be aware of the dynamics of the staff working under their leadership. They shouldn’t allow negative feelings to simmer without attempts at reconciliation. Often, a workplace spat can be the result of a misunderstanding, a lack of clear communication or misleading directions from management.

Consider the benefits of team building. Time spent together outside of the pressures of work can spark new dynamics between employees as they learn more about each other’s unique skills and personality. Building a cohesive team takes time and effort but is well worth it for the long term benefits, not only for staff but for the success of the business as well. A positive work environment benefits all involved.
